CERTIFICATE IN THERAPEUTIC MENTORING (CTM)
THE AIM OF THE COURSE
The Certificate in Therapeutic Mentoring will be again hosted by the TRC in Bath and is also in Oxford for the third year. It has been developed by Betsy in response to the need to create teams of qualified professionals working around the traumatised child and young person to bring recovery and restoration. Currently there is a demand for child psychotherapists, art and play therapists to respond to the ever increasing rise of traumatised people needing appropriate intervention.
The average course to train as an arts therapist, play therapist or psychotherapist costs £10,000 including supervision, training and other costs and takes up to three years to qualify. We assert that this creates professionals who are well trained but leaves a lack of resource to meet the demand.
TRAINING UP TRAUMA RECOVERY NURSES WHO WORK ALONGSIDE CONSULTANTS AND DOCTORS
In the medical world there are first aiders (everywhere), nurses, doctors and specialists. Yet this valued diversity of skill doesn’t seem to be in the therapeutic world. As such this therapeutic mentoring course is planned to train an army of people to respond as nurses to traumatised people to work alongside the doctors and specialists and so respond to the urgent need to facilitate recovery to many.

Our mission is to bring recovery to children, young people and their families. This will change generational behaviour patterns and bring restoration to whole communities.
WHO ARE THE STUDENTS?
We have students who are teachers, TA's, learning mentors, social workers, school behaviour consultants, educational psychologists, paediatricians headteachers. SENCO's, art therapists, play therapists, psychotherapists, school counsellors, artists, dancers, adoptive parents, foster parents and many others and 100% have said that they recommend the course to EVERYONE WHO WORKS WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE.
IN OTHER CITIES
Betsy is also running a Trauma Recovery Course in Oxford, which is an 8 day course for professionals working with traumatised children. These days are part of the CTM and the remaining days will be offered to complete the certificate.

PLEASE NOTE THAT A THERAPEUTIC MENTORING ROOM HAS TO BE REGISTERED WITH BdT Ltd TO ENSURE THE RELEVANT CRITERIA IS MET CONTINUALLY AND THEREBY ENSURING EXCELLENCE IN TRAUMA RECOVERY.
When a SENCO or Pastoral Lead or TA has completed the CTM there is the possibility to set up a Therapeutic Mentoring room in schools which utilizes the skills of the therapeutic mentor in helping traumatised children recover from trauma in their school setting. This is a partnership with the BdT team who then provide clinical supervision each term and consultancy each month of more often. The therapeutic work done in this room follows a treatment plan that's been written by a trauma trained qualified creative therapist who then supports the therapeutic mentor in delivering it. The registration of a room is for a one year period and the school can renew that contract per year. This ensures the high standard we expect to enable a whole school trauma informed environment.
To open a BdT Ltd Registered Therapeutic Mentoring Room:
1. The whole school staff have to attend a one day Introduction to Trauma Course and the Head has to proactively want to be a trauma informed school.
2.The staff working on 1:1 with children have to attend a 3 hour training on approach and strategies to enable recovery for children.
3. Two staff (in a small school it can be one) have to complete the Certificate in Therapeutic Mentoring.
3. A room is found and kitted out with appropriate equipment.
4. Work can begin on identifying the children who need to access the space and treatment plans are written snd assessments are taken.
5. Dates are booked for supervision, assessments and review meetings with the BdT associate and the Therapeutic Mentors.
6. Attendance at our yearly conference is compulsory for CPD
